Next Steps

Accept Jesus

If You Want to Become a Christian

God loves you. And He wants you to experience peace and an abundant and eternal life.

The problem is that we are separated from Him. God created us in His own image with the intent to love and obey Him, but also with the freedom to choose. We chose to disobey God and follow our own willful way. This puts is in opposition to God.

11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

We might try to bridge the gap between us and a Holy God by changing our behavior and attempting to do good things, but the bible tells us we cannot work our way back into grace or pay the sacrifice ourselves. We need a savior. And there's only one.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Timothy 2:5

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Peter 3:18

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8

So if Christ is the only way, then what should you do? Receive Christ! You must believe and trust that He is Lord, that He died as a payment for your sins, and personally invite Him to be your savior.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Revelation 3:20

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 1:12

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:9

Here is how you can receive Christ:

Admit your need (I am a sinner)

Be willing to turn from your sins (repent)

Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave

Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit (receive Him as Lord and Savior)

Be Baptized

Understanding Believer’s Baptism

“Believer’s Baptism” is by immersion after a person has repented and placed their faith in Christ.

Baptism illustrates outwardly the change that happens inside a new believer when they accept Christ as savior. Scripture teaches us that Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and then He rose again.  When someone is baptized, it reflects the burial and resurrection as well as represents being washed clean from sins through Christ's sacrifice.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4

We are a new person, and baptism is a way to celebrate and reflect what God has done for and through us, and we get to celebrate believers baptism on Sunday mornings during our worship services.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17

If you have accepted Christ as your savior and have not been baptized, then reach out to take the next step with us, talk to a pastor today, and be baptized!

Discover Membership

What it means to be a member

The difference between “attenders” and “members” can be summed up in one word: commitment

At Burnt Hickory, we recognize the need for a formal membership.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 10:24–25

We ask you to commit to membership for three reasons:

A Biblical Reason

Christ is committed to the Church.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 5:25

A Cultural Reason

It is an antidote to our society.

We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything . . . a job . . . a marriage . . . our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers and hoppers.” Membership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision. Commitment always builds character.

A Personal Reason

It produces spiritual growth.

The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you are not committed to any specific church family.
